Luxury house stands on a ‘private park’ in Novato

Tommy and Natalie Schnuck love their Novato house. They love to entertain guests on the patio and watch the wild turkeys walk along the 1.6 acre estate. They wouldn’t even put 116 Oak Shade Lane on the market if it hadn’t been for their jobs that required them to move elsewhere in the Bay Area.

“The yard is really special. I didn’t know something like that could exist in Marin, ”said Tommy Schnuck.

As the name of the street suggests, oak trees dot the hilly landscape. Trails wind through the land while mature rose bushes accentuate the terrain.

“It’s like a private park,” said Radhi Ahern of Pacific Union Real Estate, who co-listed the home with Scott Kalmbach for $ 2.3 million.

They bought the house after finding out Natalie Schnuck was pregnant, and they’ve been raising their daughter there for the past two years. They often spend their mornings wandering the patio, watching the hummingbirds as they soar from the flowers to the feeders.

The open kitchen and family room open onto the large entertainment patio which includes an outdoor fireplace. Stone countertops and stainless steel appliances equip the kitchen, which is built around an island with a built-in microwave.

“It’s a great house for cooking,” said Tommy Schnuck.

The temperature-controlled wine cellar offers Schnucks a place to store vintages for their guests.

Despite having spent just over two years at home, the couple have left their mark on the place. They built a retaining wall in the backyard and carpeted a number of rooms. The couple also converted a downstairs room into a formal dining room, transforming a large closet into built-in wardrobes and a sideboard.

At the end of the day, they retire to the owner’s suite, a voluminous space with a barrel vaulted ceiling and a spa bathroom with a soaking tub, frameless glass shower, and garden views.
